If you were a local then you might already know about the top six most underrated places in Broward County but if you are not, then we have the scoop on places you need to go and things you need to experience.

Contributing writer, Chris Joseph, for the Broward/Palm Beach New Times—highlighted a list of must-see places that must be seen and experienced to believe.

6. The Fox Observatory

Markham Park’s Fox Observatory allows you to get a closer looks at and get a closer look at life beyond South Florida with its huge telescope and other viewing equipment. You can also bring your own telescope and they’ll show you how to get the best alignment. The observatory is open to the public Saturdays from sunset until midnight and the best part….it’s free.

5. The Water Parks

For just about $10, you can go to Paradise Cove in C.B. Smith Park and hit up one of the two 700-foot watersides and the 400-foot tube ride. There are pipelines and even an area for toddlers as well. There are also 3 other splash parks to choose from in Lauderhill, Deerfield Beach, and Hollywood that are all $8 or less per person to visit. No need to fork out mass amounts of cash at some of the surrounding mega-water parks when you have affordable, local ones that are just as fun.

4. The Biking Trails

Never rule out the joy of a good ol fashion bike ride and fortunately, Broward County has an abundance of bike trails.  There are at least a dozen places to take your bike and make an adventure of it. There’s T.Y. Park, C.B. Smith Park, Markham, Hollywood North Beach Park, and Tradewinds Park, to name just a few. And for those who want a little more adventure, there are a couple of mountain bike trails to conquer, like the ten-mile trail in Markham or the seven-miler in Quiet Waters.

3. Airboat Rides

Airboat rides are a unique and amazing experience. Various airboat companies, such as Sawgrass Airboat Everglades Tour, will take you around the Everglades and show you the natural wonders of our wetlands.

2. Monday Night Food Trucks at Young Circle

Every Monday Night from 5:30-9:30PM at Arts Park in Hollywood I curate a Food Truck Event. This is probably one of the nicest spots in South Florida to bring out the family, enjoy the Park and have a picnic with 25 Food Trucks in attendance.

1. Last but not least—all things water related.

Florida and water are pretty synonymous so enjoy the best of both. From Kayaking to canoeing, paddle boating, or even a swim in the ocean….there are so many water related activities to enjoy. You can even rent a boat at several state parks (Quiet Waters, West Lake,..etc.) for a leisurely day on the water with family and friends.
